The Truth About Mushroom Benefits

Functional Mushrooms: What Works, What Doesn't, and Why

Mushrooms have been gaining attention in various forms such as pills, tinctures, and coffee. This has led many to wonder, "What exactly do they do? They all seem so similar!" The truth is, there are indeed differences among them!

Our Journey with Mushrooms

Our journey into mushroom cultivation began a decade ago in Hawaii. Even after years of learning, growing, consuming, and creating tinctures, I still find it challenging to research new varieties and ascertain the functional health benefits of a particular mushroom.

Many products tout similar benefits, including memory enhancement, inflammation reduction, digestive support, increased energy, and immune system boosting. However, when you try a coffee, a pill, or even a tincture, you may not notice any changes. Let’s explore why that might be the case.

Understanding the Science Behind Mushrooms

First, it’s essential to understand the science behind different mushrooms. They contain a range of compounds, some of which overlap. For instance, Reishi can help with stomach issues, as can Lion's Mane and Turkey Tail, but they do so in different ways.

Research shows that Lion's Mane compounds are particularly effective for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), while Reishi supports the gut microbiome, helping with conditions like H.Pylori, Candida, and overall gut balance. Turkey Tail, in contrast, enhances gut health through a prebiotic effect. Thus, if you choose a mushroom based solely on its gut health claims, you might find it ineffective if your need is for Candida treatment rather than IBS.

Why You Might Not See Results

When you consume coffee, take a pill, or use a tincture without seeing any improvements, it often stems from a lack of clarity regarding their unique properties. Another factor contributing to the lack of noticeable benefits is that many mushroom advantages are not immediately perceptible.

While you may feel better gut health, it’s not like someone will suddenly feel their LDL drop and shout, "Wow! My LDL just dropped five points!" Without proper testing, it's impossible to gauge the effects.

Choosing the Right Form of Mushroom

So, what steps should you take? First, consider tinctures over coffee or powder. I have elaborated on this in another post, but the key takeaway is that tinctures are more potent, purer, and yield superior results.

Ensure you purchase from a reputable source (like us!)—someone who is genuinely involved in inoculating, growing, and tincturing the mushrooms. Choose a supplier who provides thorough explanations of each mushroom's benefits and welcomes customer inquiries to help you select the right product. Steer clear of blended products, as they provide only a small amount of each ingredient, which will not be sufficient to be beneficial.

Setting Goals for Health

If you have concerns about cholesterol, set a goal and take the tinctures daily—once or up to three times a day—for three months, then get tested to monitor your progress. If you aim to lower blood sugar, obtain a testing kit and follow the same regimen for three months and observe the outcomes.

On our webstore, each mushroom is accompanied by detailed information regarding its benefits. Feel free to review it, and if you have questions, reach out to us via email, text, or phone. Even if you choose to buy from another vendor, we’re happy to guide you through the process because our primary concern is ensuring you find the right product of the highest quality.
